It is increasingly important that children are aware of staying safe online and how to protect themselves when using social media. A number of the companies in this cluster advise schools on this vital topic.
Members of the Malvern Cyber Security Cluster have also been working with e-skills UK on an ambitious schools outreach project. The volunteers first register as Ambassadors with STEMNET. Then, using the excellent contacts that STEMNET has with the local schools and the extensive material developed by e-skills UK, the Cluster members have been contributing towards a series of workshops and assemblies for secondary students. E-safety, phishing and social media are discussed before highlighting the range of excellent careers available in cyber security. Code challenges from Cyber Security Challenge have also been given to the students and some young people have shown particularly promising talent for such code. On-line material for both students and teachers can be seen on an associated website www.securefutures.org.
